UM-06 Marfields?
« on: Jan 19, 2008, 11:15:53 PM »
I've searched on these with not much luck so I thought I'd ask

The scenario is this:  my 87 sas'ed, running single case (prob 4.7 gear), 5.29's elocker fr/rear, sitting on 37s.  jeep trails, rocks, etc

The heavy duty axle combo on Marlin's axle page looks really tempting but I don't know anything about the marfields.  With the recent price increase on the longs, these are quite a bit cheaper.  I'm looking for peace of mind, are these birfs and axles going to cut with with my combo?

Do I need to clearance the knuckle with these like I would with longs?

No, I don't believe you need to clearance the knuckles but that is a minor modification.  Either product is very good.  This product should be fine for your application but keep in mind that anything can break.

That is a nice price.  The axle shaft warranty is the best part.  10 freakin years.  That is pimp.

ive been running a set of um o6s for 4 years now, with 40s, and 37s, and now 36s. and lets just say i do some nasty things to this truck. i have a high hp 22re, dual ultimate cases, dual lockers.

if it can stand up to my goofy butt for 4 years, its a product to stand by. are the longs stronger?? ya, but not by a whole lot. not cost effective. if your doing things that will break an un-o6, youll break a long shortly after

this is purly a guess buddy, take stock power, and the intake adds 7hp, exhaust adds 25...ect...it eventually adds up to around 150.   but i digress. the point is, umo6 worth every penny and takes a beatin!

I just don't think any exhaust is adding 25hp to that engine.  Maybe 3-5 squirrels realistically.

im not claiming that, im just using 25 as an example.

but the truck has -lc engineering performer motor, cold air intake, stailess header and exhaust, electeic fans, big bore throttle body and mas. no cat, no smog stuff

sweet that's what I was looking for.

After tax and shipping, they're close to the 27 spline longs in price but this is Marlin and they've given me awesome service with all my orders.  Plus there's no grinding involved

Its not the birfs that will most likely break, it will be the inner axle.  and also, not everyone has to grind the housing to make the longs fit.  Mine fit good with no rubbing at all.

I would like to know would Marlins iner axles work with 27sp longs?
I know the stock iners were fine with the 22r and stock gears on 34s. The 4.3l and 36s are going to eat stock inners left and mosty right. For the price of $200 for longs 27sp inners. Or marlins at $199.+SH

dose Marlin warenty the axles with a welded front since Bobby dosent anymore?

Course they would work with 27 spline longs.  They will work with any std spline birf.  They might be the same shafts bobby long sells with the 27's as the pic on his website looks much the same as those in the Marlin pic.  They are Alloy USA?
