I wouldn't...

12 bolt is worth about $100 and the 44 is worth just a bit more.  I wouldn't buy it just for the axles.  Only buy it if you feel it would be a better platform for the build you have in mind and only if it is in as fair condition as yours...

my 2 cents worth...

If it were a 14 bolt and a Dana 60 then I'd say jump on it...

I DEFINATELY say stick with what you got.More room,Fuel injection and a nicer body. The 12 bold aint worth a :pokinit: IMO and a 44 is just 1 notch above the 12 bolt, plus it's carburated.

don't do it. listen to infernal he is smart when it comes to this :pokinit: so don't do it, you just want straight axle and you had a 83 and you hated it cause the body and the carb.

the 12 bolt is slightly stronger than a gm 10 bolt so with a v8 its good for up to 36" tires with a locker. the dana 44 front (might have been a gm 10 bolt front, looks very similar) is good for 35" tires with a v8. not the best axles, but they're very common and the front axle can be upgraded to about the same strength as a dana 60 for less than a dana 60 would cost.

if you dont like the carb and the body style of the older truck stick with your 87. those axles under that truck are cheap, 100 bucks hub-hub is about average.
