Red Line Gear Oil??
« on: May 05, 2004, 03:33:21 PM »
I am going to drain and refill all the gear oil in my truck this weekend and I was considering using the Red Line gear oil.  It's a bit more expensive but is supposedly better at taking the abuse of off roading.  Does anyone one know is that statement crap or is it worth it to get the Red Line.

i've been told both.  the guy that built my 8" third members flat out said that he would not back up his work if i ran redline in the diffs.

i will tell you this.  if your transmission is old do not run it.  it will make things worse as it did in my trans.

I have heard alot of good things about Redlines products, especially their MT-90 gear oil.  I know alot of people who run it in their tranny and transfer case and say it makes a big difference in smoother shifting after cold starts and in the summer heat.  I'm gonna be doing my clutch in the next two weeks and plan on refilling the tranny and transfr with MT-90.  As for running it in the diffs I imagine it would be just as good as any other GL-5 type gear oil.  I beleive Summit racing has good prices on the Redline lubricants.

I have been running the MTL in the tranny & cases for 6 years. Run the 90 weight in the axles. It works very well for me. If you have a tranny, cases or diff with new gears you must run non synthetic in them until they are broken in & then use the synthetic.
