Buick 3800 adapter
« on: Apr 23, 2007, 07:32:55 AM »
:shocking:I just picked up a 95 Riviera with a new supercharged gm crate engine. I can't seem to find an adapter to mate that engine to the turbo trans. The gm 2.8 and the late model 3800's are a 60 degree motor and the only adapters I can find are for the 90 degree engines. any ideas? Jon

I looked into this as well and found that no one makes an adaptor for these engines  . I have, however, pondered the idea   of using a 700r4 trans from an early S-10 4x4 which had a 2.8 60* V6 and since the 700r4 is adaptable to the toyota t-case the adapting ends there. The only thing is I couldn't be sure the bolt patterns are the same  :dunno:. I was going to borrow a trans case from a friend of mine that owns a trans shop and see what it would take to do the conversion  :flamer:. I do know that the FWD transmissons had bolts holes in there bell housings that were threaded so you may have to get creative with the mating of the engine and trans. Sure it would be nice to keep the manual but also consider   the electronics already being programmed for an OD auto trans. Good luck with this and hope you come up with some good info if you do this before I get to. Just been too busy  :willynilly: with other stuff lately and it's been in storage as well, so I haven't bothered with that project in quite a while. would love to hear what you come up with  .

I have the 700r4 already, but damn I wanted the manual. I also have a tube chassis set up that I'm puting together right now with a 7MGTE. The trick is that I am going to take the back end of the turbo trans and stick it to the back end of the supra trans. The schematics look like it can happen. That way I can run the reverse throw cast iron pressure plate. It runs just like a turbocharged farm tractor then. I had it mated to my w56. BOOM!!!! Is all I heard. I'll keep you posted. Thanks, Jon

thats cool news but from what i understood from the buick boards a frequent. it's said that the buick engines stopped getting the rear mounts in 89...so how are you mounting the engines with no rear mounts....i'm not aware of any 3800 series that have the rearmounts besides the ones they put in the camaro.
