Topic: Transmission confusion

Ok, I'm 99.9% positive I have a W56, just not sure which one.

The confusion part is; On my transmission the ring is black like the Turbo R151F, not gold like the W56's. It has only one shift hole on top, and looks just like a W56A.

Anybody know if any W56 transmissions came with a black ring?

Reason for my quesitoning, I wanted to order a new throwout bearing before I slap it back together.

is the center plate steel or aluminum.  It's possible somebody painted it...

Cleaned it and scrubbed it with carb cleaner, if it's paint, its damn good stuff.

Looks to be the same as the ones on the left in this picture...

My 86 W56B had a painted black center plate.......  (and 1 shifter, the transfer is a top shift)


And looks like the ones in the picture  (although not so shiney)
