Topic: do my valves need adjusted?

Hi my 89 4runner has 215,000 miles.  The valves have been adjusted before.  I don't know the last time they were adjusted though.  Somtimes when I let off the gas I here a chatter.  There seems to be a tapping in and out durring idle also.  The noise at idle is not my injectors, I here them to ofcoarse.  It runs good though.  Should i consider adjusting the valves or could it be somthing else?

I check/adjust my 22re's about every 25k. .007 on the intake & .011 on the exhaust, I think the book says .008 & .012 respectfully. Couldn't hurt to check them out!

I don't think there's a toyota alive that doesn't have an annoying amount of valve clatter-that's just how you know they're working. I like to think it's because of my mean solid cam set up...

If the ticking comes and goes when hot, you have a bad piston. I had a 92' with 130,000 and at times the engine would tick like a valve was was out of spec. I could rev the motor and it would some times go away.
This is a common 3.0 problem caused from high miles and overheating. When i tore my motor down, i found two badly worn skirts and excessive piston to cylinder wall clearance. You will need to bore the motor, and install oversize pistons to get rid of the noise.
