« on: Jan 12, 2004, 07:39:07 PM »
My 89 4runner is v6 automatic, I am swaping a 3.4L in, how much work would it be to convert it to manual and what would it intale, does anyone like automatics?  I have never owned a manual I'm 20 years old on my 2nd auto tranny yota truck

well your pretty much looking at bolt up.  You do have a neutral saftey switch that you will have to bypass, then hanging the clutch pedal and clutch resivor. This is just a quick evaluation, But if you have pulled a tranny before than it won't be to bad. plus back up lights and so on

I heard some 3.4 from automatic doesn't have a pilot hole to line up the clutch and pressure plate. It can be drill out though.

Do you still have the auto tranny?  Where are you located if you do?  I'm looking for one that I can put in my 88 4Runner.  Yours should be an A340H auto tranny.

I just bought a 86 toy 4runner 4wd 4cyl EFI nonturbo automatic want to convert it to a manual, found a manual tranny just want to know if it is possible to convert? the manual tranny is from an EFI engine so im thinking there shouldnt be much of a computer problem.

Its real easy to convert them over to manual.  Youll need basically all the equipment that pertains to the clutch.  Such as pedal assembly, clutch master cyl, clutch hardline, slave cyl, flywheel and clutch set.  The clutch set is no biggy as you usually get all the stuff you need in one box, disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing and pilot bearing.  The rest will take a bit of junkyard scrounging to get but all that stuff can be taken out of a 2 wheel drive wich are pretty common in the junkyards.  Good luck with the swap it is not a hard job just a bit time consuming.
