Erratic idle on 22r
« on: Apr 14, 2007, 01:56:57 AM »
my 81 22r often will die when in neutral if not revving it. When it does not do this, it seems to hold a steady idle at about 2300 rpm and does not kill. previous owner said he paid 250 for a a rebuild on the carb from napa 1000 miles ago. he said it did not help. There are several vaccuum lines that are not hooked up, but rather capped off and dangling uselessly...

possibly related problem? there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to when this happens, but sometimes my air will not blow, no matter the setting it's on. when it does this, my temp sensor reads all the way cold, as if its not working. problem with the thermostat? could this relate to the erratic idle?

First thing you need to do is make sure all the vacuum lines are properly conected, that could cause all or part of your problem. its also possible that the carb wasn`t rebuilt properly or that its just worn out and needs to be replaced.

if your carb has a fuel shut off solenoid check that it has power. mine ran rough until i found out the wire to it had broke inside. also if it has 2 wires make sure the ground side is working. my kragen rebuilt carb was junk and I had to reset the float level to get it to pass smog.
