Slamster reborn
« on: Oct 05, 2007, 05:08:45 PM »
Hey guys
I just got a 93 2wd standard cab that has spent the last 5 years or so dragging its belly around the Fresno area. I got the truck on a trade and Ive been trying to figure what im going to do with the thing. I really dont need another 4wd right now but it is tempting to to a SAS. Thing is im still trying to get my FJ40 up and running so I cant commit to another big project right now. Soo what im thinking now is that ill go low buck, stay 2wd, and get it off the ground with a little lift. I just picked up a IFS rear end that I will regear and lock (Thanks BrokeOkieTy!).

Hears where it gets kinky! Im thinking about swapping 4wd IFS components onto the Slamster, Control arms, spindles, brakes, etc. and lift it some with 1 1/2" ball joint spacers. This will give me 6 lug all the way around along with the larger 4wd bearings. I have an extra 4.37 third that I might use. Im thinking about using wider tires in the rear ala stadium truck, maybe BFG's 31's in front and 32's in the rear. Who knows, we'll see how it looks when we get there.

Does this sound possible, cause it sure aint practical. :eyebrow:

This truck will be used for buzzing around at Pismo and Cal City basically for screwing around and getting stupid. :hammerhead:

Astro turf would be nice, but I read some where that it creates more wind drag than shag.

I would have to agree I would love to have a SA toy built for the trail rig an IFS toy built for the desert and a lowered toy on bags just to have fun with.  Drive around bouncin layin frame and throwin sparks.  My buddy had one and it was way too fun. :twocents:

Yeah man!
Ive already done the lowrider deal, gettin sideways on fire roads sounds like more fun right now! I used to have a long travel '69 Baja with a kingpin front end, an IRS rear with a dual carb high compression 1835 that got the living piss beat out of it. Dear ol Dad sold it for $100.oo... Time to relive those days with Toyota Power!

Yep I can relate I had a 71 baja bug mostly stock IRS rear ball joint front stocker 1600 with a 2" T-mag body lift on it.  It was a way fun car for fire roading :driving: .  If you are lookin for something like that to do with your 2wd I would recommend Total Chaos suspension for the front and some deavers in the rear  .  You can get more than enough travel from there suspension to have alot of high speed fun with :yesnod: .  If you want to crawler it then go with Marlin  :turtle: of course!!  I have seen plenty of people who hae built 2wd toys into nice trail rigs just depends on what you want to do with it I suppose. Just my  :twocents: but I would totally make it a prerunner style truck.

I too had fun running the fire roads in a Baja Bug in my youth (I even did it my lowered Cal Bug a few times :driving:). If you are looking to build it on the cheap, check out the classified section of Racedezert http://www.race-dezert.com/cgi-bin/trader/atl.cgi. There are a lot of adds for 2WD Toyota suspension parts etc for your build. ;)
