I am in the process of building a straight axle conversion. I have some questions in regards to the process. I heard that the axles that are in the stock '85 are 27 spline. Im wanting to upgrade to 30 spline longfield. Currently I have a '85 straight axle with stock inner shafts and birfields and a ARB air locker. My question is do I have to change my ARB air locker which is 27 spline or upgrade/change it?

Also, I heard that the rear 3rd member housing of a 90-95 Toyota 4Runner can be used on the 85 straight axle?

Please let me know what to do?? Thank you.

The ARB you have will work with 30 spline Longs. By 27 spline they are refering to where the inner shart goes into the birfield joint. Stock is 27 spline. Bobby makes them stronger by adding 3 more splines in the birfield joint. As for the rear 3rd member, yes you can use it. It's still an 8" ring gear.
