i just recently got an 88 pickup with 33's and i just started going over everything and fixing things on it i was wondering what that rod is thats conected to the rear housing and a valve on the frame with brake lines going to it???? should i get rid of this thing?? i plan on wheeling this pretty often

It adjusts the breaking between the front and rear when there is a load in the bed.

Some remove it all together, others cut off the bar at the end of the axle and make just a stub left at the valve and leave it adjustable, and others leave it and make a braket to raise the axle end when lifting their rigs.

It's up to you and wether or not you expect to carry any loads, for wheeling it's not really necessary.

Mine's cut off and is adjustable by an I bolt and bracket to frame, set at the stock level.
