opinions on 03 dodge diesil with auto ?
« on: Dec 28, 2006, 01:37:02 PM »
What do you guys think about the auto tranny in these trucks ? I may pull two yotas on a 28 ft goose once in a great while but will mainly be use to pull my car trailer and 1 yota !  I would like to put the banks 6 gun, exhaust, and cold air intake but nothing to extreme ? will it hold up or should I go for the 6 speed ? this will not be my daily driver ! prob. put around 5000 miles on it a year !

it should be fine.  don't pull in overdrive at all.  get a tranny temp gauge and keep an eye on it when pulling.

don't know if the auto is different in the 03 but, i have a 99 dodge diesel with the auto and i wish i had a stick.  the auto is super nice when i am in traffic or commuting, but it would be nicer to have a stick in the hills.  the auto has a huge gap between overdrive and 3rd.  it's screaming at 55 to 60 with the overdrive off but is lugs with the overdrive on so you have to put you foot in it so it is constantly shifting.   but i also have 3.55 gears so that i'm sure is a factor also plus with the stick you can put an exhaust brake on it realitively cheap  as opposed to the auto you have to have the tranny pulled to have a lockout put in it.   my truck has a bully dog box, cold air intake, and full 4" exhaust.

03's are nice but pulling a goose neck and 2 yota's will eventually tear out that tranny.  if you get it, just know you'll probably have to eventully do something to the trans.

I'm not a big fan of Bank$, the diesel market is so big now there are tons of other companies with just as good if not better performance products.

I have an 05 and it is a great truck a friends has the 03 HO with 285K miles and never had a problem, and he pulls with it almost ever day as he moves travel trailers all over west coast.

as for the add in stuff other then exhust i would stay away from it.

if you want more power change injectors to the boat ones you will pick up 75 horse power and about the same in torgue

and dodge will not know unless they pull a injector
