Any Experience with Broco GoWeld Welder?
« on: Feb 15, 2004, 08:38:33 PM »
Does anyone have the Broco GoWeld MIG welder that they would care to comment on?  It is advertized to weld aluminum as well as steel...........and is a portable (Suitcase type) welder powered by either 2 or 3 automotive 12V batteries.

Appreciate your comments on the "goods" and the "bads"!

Ive welded with setups that are basically the same.  They work pretty good for what they are.  They definately not for professional work meant to last a lifetime but they will work in a pinch and get the job done.

The welder is advertised to weld aluminum with the gas shield.  For steel, you can either feed it the flux wire or use solid wire (with gas).  I'm intrigued, and have a visit set up for 2/23 for a demonstration..........with emphasis on welding aluminum.  Not being TIG, if it will weld aluminum, I want to see it in action.

Also, this critter is supposed to be a professional welder, one that will provide a permanent weld.  I'm not interested in anything that will just "get me by on the trail".  Another reason why I'm going to get a demonstration.

Thanks for your input you guys.

Right on it sounds like this one is better than most at least.  Let us know how it comes out.  Have you ever welded aluminum w/ mig before???  It is strange to say the least.  You push the puddle you can NOT pull the puddle.  Aluminum melts instantly and hardens almost as fast.  Weird stuff to weld thats for sure.  But on the bright side its easy to make aluminum look pretty w/a mig.

Ya aluminum don't get red when its hot it just melts away.  You can also pul a bead with wire feed aluminum.  You have to make swooping half moons, or laying dimes
