Topic: ext. manifold glows red

Put a motor from a 87 4Runner into a 86 truck. It runs great but the ext. manifold glows red hot. P.S. changed the 02 senser and the cat seems ok it worked with the other motor. No check engine light comming on.

frist thing to check is timing.

Sounds like the timming is 180 out.  If it keeps running like that the cat won't be fine.  Or running way to rich

I take it your 86 is efi. When the timing check connector is shorted, does the timing retard?
Is the motor running smooth?  Any vacume leaks?
Try disconnecting the egr vacume line and seeing if it makes a differance.
