No Rear Brakes on 97 4Runner
« on: Nov 30, 2006, 08:19:42 PM »
I have checked everything I can possibley check for, I have a trip to go on with the truck tomorrow and I can't seem to getthis figured out.

I have blead all the breaks, checked for seized brake cylinders, they where pretty tight, but the loosened up after moving them in and out. I also blead the load sensor too and the shoes are new and fully adjusted.
I have 1 seized front break cylinder, but would that affect the rear?

Any help would be greatly appriciated!

Thanks.

Take the connecting rod off of the "load sensor" and have someone hit the brakes as you move it up and down to see if it is cutting off the flow to the rears. This happens a lot when you lift a rig and don't compensate for the bias. If it works note where it is sitting and put in an extension.

Also there is a piston inside the master cyl. it usually sits centered inside if it jams to one side it can block the passage to either the fronts or the rears, this happened to me once and locked up my fronts since it wouldn't allow the fluid to return once I let off the brakes. I would assume that if it did this and blocked off the rears it would also not allow fluid to travel through.

Sorry for taking so long to reply, I was on a road trip. I put a new capliper and 2 new rear brake cylinders on the truck and the brakes seem to work a little better, but the back aren't doing there full share of braking. I have have to check into the piston in the brake cylinder since I already checked the load sensor and it doesn't seem to make any difference (the truck isn't lifted either).

Ok, back to the same old problem... No back brakes again.

Does anyone know anything about the master cylinders on these trucks? There is a brass screw/bolt in the bottom of the master cylinder and when I loosen it I have back brakes, but when I tighten it up I lose them, What do you think I should do? It leaks when I loosen it too.
