99 taco power steering
« on: Nov 19, 2006, 09:45:43 AM »
as many may know from my buildup thread, i am SASing my tacoma. recentely my power steering pump started to make some
type of grinding noise, i stopped as soon as i could and checked the fluid, it was empty, i headed strait home and got some power steering fluid on the way, i put that in and it still makes the noise. im pretty sure my PS pump is shot and was wondering what some resources are for high flow PS pumps because im planning on setting up Hydro assist before too long.
'99 SR5/TRD Tacoma w/5vzfe. SAS'd with 64" diamond axle (w/ long superset & ARB). about 5" of lift, 305/75 x16 BFG KM1's. Soon to come: 1.5" more lift (6.5"), 35 to 37" tire, undecided at this point., 63" F/F diamond rear, Marlin 4.7 tacobox.

If your system got air in it it could be making this noise. You may take it for a drive and recheck the fluid level or jack the front up then with the engine running turn the wheel left to right. For hydrolic on a taco I would recomend PSC or west texas offroad.(I think thay is what they are called) :dunno:

i have a similar problem with my 98 s.a.s. with 89 steering box and have burned up 3 ps pumps, replaced the steering box and made new high and low pressure lines. the lines are not hooked up backwards. when a new pump is installed it works for 5 minutes and then its done. please help or any advice is appreciated. is there a pressure difference or something to do with the original rack and pinion steering.
