New Toy!!!
« on: Nov 07, 2006, 02:50:26 PM »
Fed up with cut off wheels on the grinder so I got one of these.
Craftsman, runs about $170.00
Counter rotating twin blades, solid lubricant for metals, dry for everything else...gonna go out and try it soon!

My old boss bought one of those things, cuts like a sonofabitch, noisy as hell on steel.

The cut looks to be about 1.5 - 2x the width of a std cut off wheel...maybe 1/4 inch wide, little less?
I will just have to plan around it.

It's GOOD!
Cuts through 3/16 like a circular saw through plywood!
Pretty clean cuts too.  Werd of caution:  wear sleeves, doesn't throw sparks, throws hot chunks of metal.
yipee!

How did you manage to get a TwinCutter? The guys at Sears told me they were discontinued cuz of some "safety issue".

OK, I wanted to get in a little review now that I have spent some quality time with Satan's saw.
First, it is well worth $170...it is much faster and cleaner than a grinder and cutoff wheel.

There are some drawbacks...it is MEAN.
This thing throws SHRAPNEL.  Big, sharp hunks of metal like little daggers.  I have decided to stop using it until I procure a full face shield...glasses just aren't enough.

If you want to give this a go I would HIGHLY recomend wearing sleeves, gloves, a face shield, and a hat on your head under the shield...

Its pretty kool though.

Maybe you need something like this:

The Ghost-Rider/Ghost Runner

That would be perfect...specially since the weather is really cooling down now.
