Will this tube clear after SAS?
« on: Sep 25, 2006, 08:08:29 PM »
Do you think the tire will rub this tube after a Marlin 4" SAS, and 37" tires? Pics show 33s on sagging 4" IFS.

I plan on doing something simlar on the driver's side, but I'll have the tube intersect under the body mount to leave room for steering box relocation.

Any advice appreciated.

a little hard to tell since not in person but i think it will, especially after the axle is moved forward and add 2 inches tire circumference. only one was to find out i guess haha

it will hit with 37's.  Pat's truck has rear's up front with the axle moved forward like 3 inches i think and 37's.  his tires hit that flange under the headlight/markerlight.

Thanks for the feedback. Guess I will have to cut it off when it rubs.

I'll have to rethink how I do the driver's side. Do you think putting a bend in it would help? So that the tube comes horizontally off the fender then swings down to meet the frame?

Bandit,

Now I see why you asked that question on Pirate. My brace is almost directly in line with the front body mount bolt in front of the sheetmetal under the headlight which is probably 3" further forward than your tube. I am pretty sure that 37's are going to hit tht tube where it is currently located.

Thanks for posting the reply on Pirate. I am trying to stay away from there, but I didn't know where else to find your build.

I'd really like to support that node at the fender, but I'm not sure how to do it. There doesn't seem to be a good place to tie it into. :headscratch:

A possibility is to put a bend in it like you were talking about and than also angle the tube forward to hit the frame below the body mount.

Thanks kajo, that's just what I had in mind for a bent piece.

Do you think it will be enough to clear the tires?

If I have the tube meet the frame under the body mount, will lost access to the body mount bushing/bolt be a problem?

Try to weld a piece of rect tube(cut one side off )around the body mount leave the bottom open to access the body mount .then weld tube to it

Do the SAS/lift/tires then flex it out and SEE where it will hit.  Seems kinda pointless to spend so much time on were it MIGHT be.  Looks like it will end up hitting to me but I wouldn't go about fixing it until it is actually a problem or you might just end up doing it all again later.

That's a good idea. I might try that out.

Good advice and well received. Thanks.

Are you being serious or sarcastic? here is a picture from further back. It is only attached at two places at the bottom right now, which is why I am adding tube.

Bandit, I posted these pis in my build up thread on Pirate but figured I would throw them up here for you to look at.  The tires are fully turned to the right and fully stuffed. There is about 1" clearance from tire to tube, You can see where the tire rubs the sheetmetal and also rubs on the airbox pocket. This pic also shows me that I amy need to route my light wires a little better.

Thanks Kajo! I really appreciate you taking the time to snap these shots. A picture is worth a thousand words! If I had seen this before, I wouldn't have had my bumper wrap around as far as I did. Live & learn I guess!

Thanks again.
