90 Rear Axle Junk?
« on: Aug 21, 2006, 09:45:14 AM »
Hi I'm new here..I looked for the answer but could not find it. OK this is the deal, I have a 1990 toy rear axle. I also have a 87 rear axle housing and diff but no shafts. I also have Dana - 44. What axle would be the strongest. If they were brand new. Would it be worth it to assemble the 87. O yeah I'm poor..lol

Take your pick, they are all about the same strength. Now the toyota 6cyl/turbo carrier is stronger than the 4cyl. so if you know what either one came out of and one was a turbo or 6  cyl. that's the one to use. Other than that not much difference.

Nothing wrong with the 4cyl. third would be just as strong as the D44, would have just been gravy if it were a 6cyl. The 4x2 could be a 4x4 third, some did come with them and then again some didn't and would be different.

I would use the Toy 3rd.  They are much easier to maintenance and assemble.  My :twocents:

Perfect spot for Toyota axles, the Willy Mammoth runs Toy axles. Go check out his build and you'll get all the info you need on the install.
