86 4Runner roof rack
« on: Jul 07, 2006, 11:40:08 PM »
I just removed the original roof rack on my runner. When i removed the mounts from the fiberglass top it left holes in the roof which i filled with filler compound. My question is how can i attach another roof rack to the fiberglass top? will it need special mounts or can i just screw down the new rack?

The factory top has drip rails on it and you can get rack mounts to attach to the drip rails.  Toyota says that they are not designed for a load but i am sure that they will hold up just fine.  I am too planning to put a rack on my truck and i will most likely be using that same method.  I dont want to put any holes in the fiberglass.

Your only going to have a rack over the cabin of your runner then? Is there any way to mount the rack to the fiber glass top of the runner. When i removed the original rack it was screwed into metal inserts that were imbeded into the fiberglass. Since they were old the screws broke off inside the metal inserts so i had to completly remove the inserts and filled in the holes.
