just wondering im doing the 5 speed swap and was wondering if i could change the unit out to one that didnt use vacume to engage and all that stuff. like a older simple dependable unit. this possable?

Sorry, you're not to clear on the question, but are you asking if you can swap over from vacuum operated 4x4 to manual?  you don't have to do anything to the differential, IIRC, you just have to swap out the hubs from automatic to manual.  I have not done it, but I doubt that it would be very difficult.

Just pick up some hubs off the 22re model pickup, they should fit (99% sure) and the hub assembly should be the same.

i was actually talking about  the differantal. my 4wd is activated by vacume swithces when you put it in 4wd. but if you had a broken switch or vacume leak it wouldent work. just wondering if a unit that was controlled by the t case instead of vacum. like my front axles always turn. its just the drive shaft isnt engaged, this is what i read because i have that add.

Get an axle tube & shaft from a non ADD diff & bolt it on. You will need to buy a seal for the axle tube that the ADD version doesn't use.
1 front axle is always engaged with the ADD system. The vacuum line will need to be plugged or the pipe capped where the ADD vacuum originates on the engine.
