t-case problem need quick answears
« on: Mar 12, 2006, 01:30:31 PM »
My truck got rear ended couple off weeks ago. In the impact the housing pressed the draglink in the  propeller shaft resulting it to kick the t-case. ....

The truck has gone to a shop that fixed the frame. And now when I drove home from the shop.  noticed that I canīt shift the t-case out of 4WD. The shifter moves back and forth. but I canīt move it in the J motion. If I put it in the low range I can move it left and then back and forward. It feels the same as when it shifts normally but nothing happens, when I release the clutch.

O.K. Then  I put it in 4wd. when I release the clutch the propeller shaft moves 1/4 then jerks and moves a nother 1/4

My problem is the insurance company. They are giving me hard time repairing the t-cases.  and it would help if I know what is wrong so if they offer me some money in exchange. If it would be op to me I would throw in another t-case and then check whatīs wrong with this one. But I am not allowed to open anything in my own garage. It has to happen in a shop that is listed with them.

Any ideas will help give me something.
With regards Bazzi.

It sounds like to me that the 2x/4x shift rod slipped into 4x and the gates don't line up so you can't shift it out of 4x.

Take the shifter base off and look at the gates were the shifter goes and see if you can shift it with a screwdriver.

yes I know that... But the bigger issues is why the rear propeller shaft (drive shaft) moves only 1/4 and stops and moves 1/4 again....

I donīt have a whole t-case lying around and if I remember correctly there is just one axle going through the whole t-case and if that axle is not broken the rear shaft should move normally.... ?  Am I maybe wrong is there a connection in there somewhere. ? ? ?

Yes, but you can also put it into neutral and nothing turns.

Sounds like there is something wrong such as maybe some broken teeth on the gears or something else that will require the case to be pulled apart for inspection.

No cracks in the case? oil leaks?

I have a bunch of oil leaks... I have a crack in the case near the filling tap. and the cases leak on every place they are bolted together.  Or somewhere on the top (out off the shifters mabe)

I am having such problems with this.... one part of me tells me to let the insurances go and just fix this... But anouther says it is a mather of a prinsipp.  They are suppossed to pay for it. It is just killing me to have the truck sitting there broken without beeing allowed to repair it.

If I Start tearing it appart and bring the broken parts to the insurances and show them. They might as well think that this was a part that was lying on my garage floor....  (at least a friend of mine stopped me when I was starting)

They tell me that a Ford KA canīt damage my truck this much.... They tell me that a car that small canīt crack the cases and bend the housing. I am meeting them tomorrow and I am thinking about what the best methood it would be to show them what is wrong... They donīt understand a leeking t-case and a leaking housing is showing you what is wrong.....   They seem to think that if the housing has 2 wheels attached to them there is nothing wrong with it.

I would just take to them and tell them to drive it. After they see what is happening they will need to take care of it.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with it and hope they take care of it.
