New Cat sources and prices?
« on: Feb 13, 2006, 07:51:53 AM »
Time to replace the cat on my 83 Truck.  Who has the best prices on Carsound or other "high flow" cats?  Also any issues with Thorley headers?

Thanks.

On a 22R/RE, a high flow cat would be nice but not necessary.  I've had good luck with "universal" 2.25" cats from NAPA or the like.  They're cheap and effective, if you don't mind welding them in place.

Thorley headers are nice, but not as nice as a TRD or LCE header.

I've found cheap magnaflow replacements on ebay, but there again they're weld in.  Sellers say they're high flow, but checking the part # on the magnaflow site I couldn't find where it said it was high flow.

Thanks for all the info.  Found a Magnaflow/Carsound high flow cat from ajusa.com for $75 plus shipping.  Not too bad.  Heard good things about the Carsound cats here and a few other forums, so I figured for $82 and change worth the try.  I went with the Thorley header as well.  Ordered from them directly, 186 plus shipping.  Stay at home wife with two little ones, on a Paramedic salary, gotta keep the parts budget a little real.  Hey Ryan, get married yet?  If so,  :beerchug:  :clap2: to you and yours.

No cat on mine in cali, but it came from alaska and has that gorgeous little emissions sticker sayin "non-catylist".

I wish that was the case here, but it's county by county here.  I live in the most populated, therefore the most emissions from commuters.  Tempted to establish a mailing address at my buds house in the next county over, but there is bureaucratic talk of enforcing emissions testing there too.
