power steering installation
« on: Jan 26, 2006, 07:53:17 AM »
I am getting ready to install Hy-steer power steering in my 81, first time ever doing this, I have looked at all of the parts and looked where they should go. But there is no holes is the fender for the reservoir is this common? Also is there any tricks to doing this install? Should I beef up the frame where the box goes? Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Here is how I mounted my box with the Front Range Offroad frame brace: http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=8233.560

My 83 didn't have any holes in the fender, either. I'm not 100% positive, but I think the factory reservoir for the 1st gen truck was mounted to the vertical section of the fender, while later models had it mounted on the horizontal portion. I just found a good location that allowed the reservoir to be level and drilled new holes.
