Marlin 4" springs for SAS on 2000 runner
« on: Oct 20, 2005, 08:39:42 PM »
I have a 2000 4runner that I am gathering parts for for a solid axle conversion.   I do not want a huge lift.  I am thinking the 5" springs as a spring under.  From other posts these springs sound like they will give 6 or more inches.

I already have a Dana 44 from an 85 Jeep Wagoneer that is almost done with the new parts and rebuilding.

I am looking for opinions on using these springs as Spring under and what your ideas would be to acheive about 4 - 5" actual lift.
Restored and modified Toyota Fj40.  See my build at http://toysandbox.com/fj40

for a spring under application they will provide much less left than that.  the people who are saying that the 5" springs are giving an actual 6" lift are on a spring over toyota 8" shackle found on 79-85 pickups and 4runners as well as sas'd newer models.  i'd say run the 4" and do a spring over setup, or run a waggy or toyota rear pack or both.  i know on a jeep or samurai a spring over conversion adds 5.5" of lift approximately so its hard to say what a D44 sprung over on a 2000 toyota will do.
in the projects nooga, anything goes

Yup,I agree with TTF.If you run those springs under the axle, you'll only end up getting around one inch of lift, and will not articulate as well as if they were over the axle.Either run Toy rears all around,or go with the Waggys. Not trying to shoot down your idea, just giving you my input.

i have a 98 SAS 4 runner and it has 44044s and it sits tall over 37s, i am hoping i can take a leaf out and loose a inch or so.

ps it has a 3.4 and ARB bumper on the front so it has plenty of weight.

Search around on yotatech.  Steve Schaefer did a spring under and is running 35s.

Well, if the ideal of excluding the lesser equipped (stock or otherwise) is accepted... there is no fundamental difference between that and a Sierra CLub ideal of exclusion. If we cannot embrace the 4wheel users as a whole. We are not fighting for access. I cannot be that shortsighted
