idler arm rebuild

i have a buddy of mine the next county over that has a runner on 36 sx's  he has said something about rebuilding the idler arm on his rig. has anyone ever heard of this? :dunno:  i remeber something about a bushing wearing out and there was a bushing that you can replace and rebuild it and keep going. it was from NAPA. he said he has done this to a # of trucks and runners.  i was trying to find a bushing part # to do this on my daily driver till i do a sas. has anyone ever heard of this or am i just :screwy:

2 plastic bushings one on top & the other on the bottom of the shaft. Undo the nut, pull the shaft out of the housing & replace the bushings w/some new grease in there. A truss for the idler arm is highly recommended, they bend easily (the Downey one works well). Toyota dealer will have the parts.

how much are the bushings and do you know what the bushing parts # it is by any chance?

I seem to remember them being around 15 to 20 bucks for the pair. I may have one down in the shop. I will see if it has a part number on it.

I forgot about that article, good find. I used waterproof grease when I used to do mine. The Downey truss worked very well when I still had IFS. I had replaced 2 bent parts before that, none after.

 :beerchug:  THANKS FOR THE  GREAT FIND . THE ARTICLE WAS WHAT I NEEDED. THE BUSHING WAS THE TICKET. THE IFS WORK AS GOOD NOW AS TO BE EXPECTED :clap2:  FOR IFS.
