Made my own bumper *pics*
« on: Sep 17, 2005, 03:33:25 PM »
My old bumper was rotted out in the center, twisted, pushed into the truck, it just looked like :pokinit: to me.

So I made this in a few hours, didn't mess up once.  I didn't have a jig setup, so when I started tack welding it together, a few of the uprights pulled the horizontal bars so they aren't perfectly parallel.  I tig welded all the tubing together, and mig welded all the brackets for mounting it to the frame.  I was able to use the stock bumper mounts, slightly modified.  I made new ends for where it actually mounted to the bumper.  I used spray on bed liner to paint it.

If anyone wants one, I'll make 'em and sell 'em for $150.

Not bad, not bad, but it would look alot better with a model standing next to your truck. :eyebrow:

Looks good!!   One thing I would like to see out of that is where the top tube wraps around the corner extended a little bit and then angling the bottom tube to meet with the top tube with no spacer between them.  That way it can act like a rear slider/bumper.

No matter what I think, it's an awesome looking rear bumper, good job!! :beerchug:

Elaborate a bit more on this.

I'm really looking into expanding our drag racing business into the rock crawling market as well.  Of course, the only thing I'll be able to do is fabrication of bumpers, cages, sliders, hangers, etc.  Don't know if I'd want to become a dealer for actual parts.

What he's talking about is the bottom tube meets the top tube at the end of the bumper on the sides. It makes it so it doesn't hang down too far.

Ah, I see.

My truck doesn't flex enough to have to worry about the bumper catching, I'd flip over before it came close.

looks sweet man  what if you were to put a brace going from the ends to the sides of the frame?  It looks like if you came down on the sides, it would tweak them up, and a brace would help that?  :dunno: mabye toss a reciever on there as well?
