Tacoma very hard to start
« on: Aug 10, 2005, 09:18:30 AM »
My sister and her boyfriend are in Europe right now and they should be returning tomorrow night, but my dad tried to start her boyfriends truck the other day and it felt like the battery was dead and nothing happened when he tried to crank it. He had the battery charged at the shop next to his work and the guy at the shop said it hadn't discharged at all. My dad put the recharged battery back in and held the key in the start position for longer (30-50 seconds) before it started to crank and finally started. It is a 1997 and has only been sitting for about 5 weeks with good gas in it. What could be the reason for this being so hard to start?

Check to make sure that the ignitor is not loose. Its a small 2x2 relay under or next to the air box, if it does not have a good ground then no start

Yup.  Bad starter contacts.  $20 in parts and an hour of your time will get 'er all fixed up.  :beerchug:
