ammo can or 5/8" plywood and speaker box carpet...works well if you take your time with it.  :yesnod:

Ditto. 1/2" plywood I had laying around and about $4 worth of carpet from the remnant pile at Lowe's. The lid flips open toward the passenger side and I finally have a nice cupholder.

I've been thinking of building some kind of center console that is built around some form of bass tube, with the usual storage, cup holers...etc. I'll have to try it out some time....It would  eliminate the subs behind the seats and give up some space for leg room. Anybody already do this?  Sorry, not trying to thread jack, just releasing some ideas in the right thread ;).
