FJ40 E-brake extension cable.
« on: Jul 07, 2005, 03:47:05 PM »
I did a search and couldn't find anything on this.
I'm adding a Toy Box to my 40. Is there a longer cable or extension available for my drive line e-brake.
The e-brake never worked that great on either 40 I've owned so I'm wondering if it's even worth the effort.

Not sure if they are the same, but I replaced my brake cable on my pickup with aircraft cable and splicers to get to the right length.  Its plenty strong, and you can find it at almost any hardware store for cheap

The e-brake on a 40 is between the T-case and rear DS, the cable is more like a choke or accelerator cable except way hercury.

A big rig shop that makes PTO cables or two speed rear ends, should be able to make you a custom cable if the factory retainer clip can be re-used inside the drum.  Here in Fresno, we have had 5 or so made using the origonal ends.  Cost is around $75.  The ideal way in my opinion is to use a 79 to 9/81 FJ40 cable and a FJ60 style dog house floor mount handle.Any import sports car handle could also work.I have personally used FJ60 & MR2 handles. Place the handle to the left of the tranny shifter, and as far back as possible .

Thanks, I drive by a Peterbuilt shop every day to and from work. Pick and Pull is doable on a lunch break. Problem solved!!!!!
