finding a 79-85 truck cheap
« on: May 10, 2005, 01:08:09 PM »
I am looking for a 79-85 truck for cheap. No motor or no tranny even is OK. I almost bought an 85 with no motor for $200 but someone came up with cash before I did so its gone.

I'd like to find a regualr cab with a 5spd and carburated motor but Im not gonna be pciky. Stock is a plus, I want to do my own work.

Anyone know anywhere to find these? Anyone have or know of someone selling? I watch the papers but everything is usually pricey.

I am in Northern California. Thanks.

What is your price range? I'll keep an eye out here in the Sonora Area and let you know if I find something.

Um if it doesnt have a motor or tranny I don't want to pay more than $400. I am going to build my own motor anyways so really I don't need a complete truck. I'd like to get a newer 5spd, but if it's got a tranny in it that's fine. Reg. cab is my first choice. Thanks for the help Erik! (my name is Eric with a c ;-])

hey, if you want to build it, don't make the folly of just trying to find a '79-85 truck!  often times '86-up pickups go for cheaper, all you have to do is cut the IFS off, mount leaf springs and buy a crossover kit!  however i was dead set on a '79-83 truck and months of searching paid off and i got it for $600.  then again though, you never ever find what you want when you actually look for it.

Or try going out to the country areas, I went up to Eureka last weekend and I saw at least 7 or 8 "Yard Car" 4wd Toyotas on the way up 101
