winching recovery time
« on: Apr 26, 2005, 12:38:08 PM »
When utilizing my warn 8000 winch for prolonged periods I notice that it really takes a toll on my charging system.  Im running a yellow top optima, stock alt and reg that is now operating correctly (faulty store bought regulater) The deep cycle battery allows for long pulls with little power fade if you will but it can take up to 5 minutes plus for the charging syatem to recharge the battery to normal levels.

Is this normal?

Would a higher amp alt lessen this time?

What other considerations are there when swaping the stock system to a high output alt?

Would the stock reg be used?  for

How about wiring up grades ect?

Thanks

:shocking:

Are you winching with the engine running or engine off? How long do you pull for at one time? Are you maxing out the load pull capacity on your winch? These are all factors that are determine how much draw your putting on your system.
Your yellow top should be fine and recover well if your charging system is working correctly which it sounds like it is. Just make sure you don't over load your system when winching. The harder the pull the more the amperage and thus the shorter amount of time you can winch without burning something up.
