1st gen 4runner rear seat hardware missing.
« on: Apr 16, 2021, 08:55:59 AM »
When I purchased my 87 4runner the backrest on the rear seats were removed.  I see the center bracket where the seats hinge but the hardware is missing. The bottom section of the rear seats are installed along with the lap belts.  Does anyone know what parts hold the seat backs in from the factory?  I am having a hard time finding a diagram.

The hardware on the backrests of mine is wayyy cheesier than that. The latch mechanism that holds the seat up looks aftermarket/homemade.  It also does not have retractable lap belts like other 1st gens I've had.  It has pull style lap belts that look aftermarket. I wonder if they were added from the factory.

there was a LOT of variation in the first gen rear seats.  especially the early years since they were shipped with none and then farmed out to various places for install.

mine looked like a gate latch from a fence!
2nd gen fits in pretty easily if you can fab up a bracket for the seat back catch.
i did that and posted if you want to see it.

Cool, didn't know that.  I'll search it.
