The on going exhaust battle
« on: Apr 11, 2005, 04:54:24 PM »
Today I replaced my header gasket with a factory style manifold gasket.  Should have done that months ago!  Didn't realize how badly it was leaking.  What can i do to prolong gasket life?  I've got a thorley header on a 22re.  my next question.  My truck is too damn loud for me to drive any distance.  I go from the header to 2inch pipe into a highflow 2inch cat and out to 2 2.25 inch 45 elbows into a 2.25inch cherrybomb with a turndown.  I want to make it a bit more quiet.  I was thinking about putting a flowmaster after the cherrybomb, or putting in another cherry bomb.  Any ideas or suggestions of a quieter muffler that still sounds decent.

Make sure your header bolts are tourqued to the proper specs and check them periodicaly, mufflers in my opinion is a matter of preferance. I feel the flowmaster is too loud and a turbo style muffler is a little better. Of course there is going to be people who say that a flowmaster is perfect or a cherry bomb on their truck is as quiet as stock corolla but whatever, like I said its a matter of preferance :blah:

Maybe my truck is a special case, but inside it seems a little loud and I outside I know it is real loud, only when I'm hard on the gas.  I think what I'll try first is to add another cherrybomb, and run a tail pipe out the back.  Start out cheaply.  Its hard to talk exhaust on the internet.  My buddy has a flowmaster on his tacoma, he got it for free and it sounds really good, cruising down the road you barely hear it in the truck.  I'm not sure what series it is, I'm guessing maybe a 50.
