G52 transfer case bolts
« on: May 02, 2017, 07:54:14 AM »
Hey all, long time lurker only a couple of post so far. I have a 1989 4runner auto that i am swapping to a manual from a donor truck i just purchased. The donor is a 1984 and from what i can tell it looks like it is a g52. The trans was "rebuilt" a year or so ago. I went to pull it out this past weekend and found a handful of surprises. Many missing bolts, only 2 in the bell-housing which is also cracked. Luckily i have a complete w56b that im going to grab the bell-housing off of. My issue is the g52 trans to transfer case bolts seem to be about 3-5 mm too long, they are "tight" but you can still spin the washers. There is a small crack on the top of the case too that im going to weld up and run it like that. I pulled the tcase bolts from the w56b and put them into the g52 everything tightens up correctly and i'm good to go. So the question is has anyone pulled out one of these trans and found they mixed up the transfer case bolts and had the same issue where they wouldn't tighten all the way down. And if so where did these bolts come from. They are definitely Toyota bolts right thread pitch and head size just a touch too long.
