Attn: BigMike - Shifter Interference
« on: Mar 31, 2005, 12:05:14 PM »
A buddy of mine recently purchased a 1984 Toyota on ebay and is now trying to work out the bugs.  When he took delivery he noticed that the oil pan was leaking a bit so the previous owner reduced the price a bit.  Within a few days the truck started puking tons of oil both top and bottom.  It was a $1,400 bill to get it all repaired.  Used cars/trucks can be difficult to judge in person, be careful with ebay purchases.

As far as we know the transmission and transfer case are stock, but the shifter interfere with each other.  When he shifts from 1st to 2nd gear the transmission shifter knocks the transfer case shifter out of 4wd low (single stick).  I told him that worst case is he might have to bend one of the shifters, but the only reason that I can think of is if one of the shifters could be installed backwards?  Is this even possible?  I recently pulled my transmisson/transfer case to install your clutch, but I didn't notice if the shifter could be installed backwards.  Any other ideas?
