Rims hitting Tie Rod
« on: Oct 03, 2015, 05:42:44 PM »
So after some research I'm still not coming up with much. But the other day I went to reinstall the stock rims on my 84 solid axle toyotta and they were hitting to tie rod when I tightened the wheel down. I had this issue with some aftermarket rims and is why I was going back to stock. I noticed when I changed rims there was two 1/4 spacers over the studs and now I only have one. Is this a common issue on these trucks or do you guys think something is wrong?

If the spacer you are referring to looks like these,

they are not the stock rims for the straight axle truck, and are likely from an '86 or newer IFS truck.

They do look close to those. I'll grab a picture tomorrow.

I was looking at the marlink and saw it as for high steer only. Has this changed since one of the options is the 43 1/4 stock hilux tie rod and another option is the 41 1/2 high steer hilux tie rod?

Changing the tie rod will do nothing for you.  You have IFS rims on a solid axle truck.  You'll need spacers or different wheels.

Yes. I had them. I removed them when I found out. I knew about the IFS wheel things just wasn't sure about the spacers and OEM rims. My plans to CNC some spacers and do the IFS hub swap
