 :therethere:Hey guys,
I was in the process of replacing a bunch of oil seals on my transfer case (VF2A out of a '99 4runner 5-speed). I happened to take a look down the transfer case shifter flange (shifter removed), and I can see a spur gear with some damage. Every tooth has a "dimple" dead in the center, and then there are several other impression marks towards the aft edge of every tooth. The pattern is the same on every tooth.

I cant quite figure out which gear this is - any ideas?

Any thoughts on what could cause this?

Run it, or replace it (I found a used one locally for about $270)?

This tcase was found to be low on oil (had about 1/2 quart in it), but has had no other ill effects. No obvious heat damage to bearings, no chunks/shavings in the oil, and it made no strange noises before I pulled it.
