Safe EGT for Turbo Diesel?
« on: May 27, 2015, 02:46:31 AM »
well its turbo time for the old 2L wanted to know what the recommend temp to stay under was? that way i know how much fuel i can feed the engine

is 650c a good max temp to go by?
i plan to run 5-7 psi and turn the fuel up until the EGT gets up near the max number or it starts to soot what ever comes first and call it good

Well I'm not sure about the 2L, but my 1KZ-te comes from the factory with 12 PSI. I have read that 1100*F or 600*C was about as high as you want it to get. I don't yet have an EGT gauge on mine yet, so I couldn't tell you what it is actually running at. The lower end on the 2L and the 1KZ are pretty much the same aside from the bore, although I don't know if the 2L has oil squirters to cool the underside of the Pistons?

ok, first thing is which 2l do you have? 2l-1 or 2l-2. 2l-1 is the "slant" engine with roller rocker cam. 2l-2 has flat tappet cam.
what turbo are you using?

pre turbo egt run about a max of 700c (1300f).
not sure if 2l-1 run oil squirter's or not. 2l-2 generally does.

don't worry about high boost. provided your not running the turbo inefficient high boost won't kill the engine. to much fuel is the big killer.
if running original turbo setup just use stock boost which can up to about 10lb.

1kz bottom end is different ball game to L series engines. 1kz is substantially better. L series do have a habit of snapping cranks.

well im not sure what mine is but i know its got rockers with little rollers on the lobe side of the arm the cam is over head with lash adjustment on the other end of the rocker arm

the exhaust bolts go \ \ \ \  if that means anything?

ive picked up a cheep cheep probably really inefficient CT20  the add said OE replacement CT20; 17201-54060 for the money i said stuff it if i get 2 years out of it im doing good and im not after anymore than 10 psi so efficiency shouldn't be to bad ehh it will make some improvement to the old tractor engine at least

i was thinking 6-700c pre turbo at the flange so guess ill roll with that

sounds like you have 2lt-1.
unfortunately i don't know a lot on them.
one thing to watch is they run a different turbo and manifold to the 2lt-2. i think you bought the wrong one.
the turbo exhaust in port is round on the 2lt-1 and square on the 2lt-2. the 2lt-2 manifold won't fit 2lt-1 head as the stud spacing is different.

piston oil squirter's i have no idea on those. try the aussie or uk toyota surf forums.

main thing i was after wast a safe EGT to stay below so when i turn the fuel up it dosent eat itself

if i remember right the 2lt-1 turbo is smaller which may be more suitable depending on what your tuning will be.
the 2lt-2 turbo is good for 15psi, tho stock 10psi or so will be ample. intercooling helps a lot with these.

tho if doing your own manifold i would get tdo4 turbo anyday over a ct20.

ahh i just took a guess at the turbo time will tell if its going to be a bad match

here is the place i post my trucks new doings and goings on http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=97698.new#new

ill be happy if boost is all in by 2000rpm that would be awsome i think but probaly not likely as i didnt do any compressor map calcs to size the houseing and wheels so ive got no idea if ill be running in the efficancy window or on the surge line but for $218 AUD on my door step in 2 days from payment it will do the job i guess so long as it makes boost and lets me burn more fuel

im not looking for a power house here just a kick in the ass to get her moveing
