Lower Knuckle Bearing Caps and Bolts
« on: Mar 28, 2015, 04:39:13 PM »
Got everything diassambled to install 25mm arms and MC Lower Caps.

1.) Can I install the lower bearing caps before reinstalling knuckle? I can't remember but I thought I heard somebody mention the caps can be installed, then knuckle, then arms.  Probably wrong though.

2.) The kit comes with the 10mm hex bolts used to replace the studs.  Can anybody point me to the torque specs for those?  Also, does anybody use Blue (or Red i guess) thread locker on those bolts/

I found this referencing the Lower Cap torque...

"The great thing about this design is that unlike factory studs our bolts do not have shoulders. Therefore our bolts contact 100% of the knuckle's threads providing a high clamping force without fear of damaging knuckle threads. Our lower bolts can be torqued to 65 ft-lbs, which is nearly three times the recommended rating of the stock studs."

Should I be doing 65 ft-lbs for the Steering Arm bolts also?

good point I didn't torque mine that high on mine I will need to go back and re-torque them. I waited to install my bottom caps. Not sure if you could assemble them early or not. I was just following the FSM.

Anybody got input on torque for arm bolts (with or without thread locker)?

@helipilot77 - I have always followed FSM also

@jangelfire - I'll bolt lower caps first this time around just so I know. (at the very least get the bolts started and torque once on)

Just realized cap bolts are only for the bottom.  Studs still used on top.   :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack:
