another FNG
« on: Jul 24, 2014, 10:48:59 AM »
Hey all, just picked up a really clean '85 extra cab that's gonna be my kid's ride in a few months when he gets his permit.
It's very clean, 83K 5 sp 4x4 so as such my first priority is to make it a bit more difficult for those thieving low lifes to steal.
I've owned a few yotas in years past including a '69 FJ40 (with s/b & trans swap) which was my daily driver for 9+ years.
Now I drive a '12 Taco 6 sp which I love but I am seriously looking forward to wrenching on this '85, mostly because of it's
pleasant lack of wires if ya know what I mean

Welcome! Sounds like a good project! Any pictures of your old 69? I've always wanted an fj40 with a small block.... My neighbor has one that will pull the front wheels off the ground!
Once you get enough posts I need pics! :beerchug:

Oh tons of fun! we originally built it to run in the dunes with a M-21 - could hang against a mustang GT till he hit third - not nearly enough to lift the wheels but probably an honest 350 hp
plenty to shatter a few old Muncies and Toy TCs. My garage still smells like gear oil - Ha
Will do with the pix, I'll have to scan em, those were film days- Ha!

If you are looking at some devices to prevent theft, i think most people recommend kill switches.  look up it.  decided a spot to hide the switch/switches and don't let people know.  ive heard of people welding chain links to their dual case shifters and padlocking them together.  that might work good to keep the rig in low range so it can't go very fast if it is stolen :driving: .  you could get a club   or even pull the ignition coil wire when you park it.  or all of the above!  The truth is anything can be stolen, we all know that, so we just try to make ours more difficult to steal.
