Leaking catalytic converter
« on: Jun 05, 2014, 08:41:00 AM »
My truck's new CA ECO catalytic converter that I just installed is leaking from a gap in the bead. I plan on welding over it but what kinds of problems could be making it leak? Later tonight I'll try taking a bit onto a napkin and burning it to see if its gasoline. I presume if it is gasoline I am running too rich?

thanks

The fluid will either be gas, coolant, or if you are lucky, just water from condensation.  If it is gas, you should smell unburnt fuel in the exhaust, if it is coolant, it should have a kind of sweet smell to it.

Is the leak on the muffler side or the engine side of the cat?

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. should just be condensation.. does it do it after youve been running it a while? or just upon first start. both my old 22R and New 3RZ spit some moisture.

no matter the cause, it is shotty workmanship if it is leaking from a seam...... it shouldn't

how much liquid are you talking about, sure it is a leak vs hot gas hitting cold air and being condensation?

It's a slow drip from the muffler side of the cat and I never noticed it untill I started it cold the other day. The cat was ice cold so I'm guessing it just needs some time to heat up and burn off the excess fuel. I didn't drive it around after. I'll try to identify the liquid tonight.

If its freezing cold where you are then it may just be condensation.  Try checking during a warmer time of the day
