3rd gen 2rz swap weird idea
« on: Dec 21, 2013, 11:48:21 AM »
So I'm doing 2rz swap into my cousins 3rd gen and I have complete wiring from a 98 Tacoma deuce wheel drive. I'm guna run all the taco wiring so I was guna try and just use the Tacoma gauge cluster so it will just plug in. We were looking at it and it looks like we're guna have to do a custom trim piece like maybe the taco trim fit inside the the 3rd gen trim.  I may just wire up the 3rd gen cluster but I'm curious if anyone has ever done this? It seems like I've heard of it being done.  If anyone has a pic of this being done by yourself or someone you kno or a link to someone that did it I would like to see it.  I've done my research and haven't seen anything about this. Thanks in advance.

I have done a full harness, tank and steering column out of a 97 2 wheel taco into an 81 4x4.  It was a wheeler and didn't really have a dash, but I used the taco cluster.  Everything plugged in except for the windshield wipers which I soldered.  If you go the full harness route make sure you snag the hazard light button, you are going to need it if you don't want to fool the ecu.

Check it out, I swapped the entire harness from a 96 Taco into my 82 truck. I even used the steering column, wiper motor(simple adapter plate needed) and guage cluster, had to solder the front signal lights and washer pump. Wish I would have did the entire dash and controls.

Sweet yea thanks for the info. The work is already underway its surprising how much of the third gen stuff plugs in to the inter. Taco wiring.  The cool part is I have the taco wiring 100% so it's been really cool.

The hazard button? You mean for the flashers?

Yeah, that is what I'm talking about.  I seem to remember needing the hazard light switch plugged in to the harness to get everything acting right.  I think it had something to do with using all of the wiring from the tacoma with the tacoma steering column.
