rear T-case sticks in 4hi
« on: Jul 29, 2013, 10:18:20 AM »
Hey guys just completed a dual case setup with 4.7 in rear case, hit the trail and the rear case hangs up in 4hi randomnly, i can remove the shifter and manually manipulate the rails to the correct position and continue until the next time, i tried rolling forward, backwards, loading the drivetrain, unloading the drive train, im thinking its a shift fork or sleeve issue or shift rail? i hav a buddy who has the same concern to the T, surely someone out there knows the fix. im using a marlin shifter for the rear case. :help:

Bringing this topic back to the top. I've experienced this twice in the past few months. I just installed my MC07 and my truck is sitting in the driveway with the rear case, low range rail hung up in HI. I tried like hell to get it to shift. Why is this occurring? I recently bought a truck for  parts and it acted the same way... I didn't care a whole bunch about the truck so I stuck a pry bar in the T Case and forced it back. After it went it was loose and shifted freely. That truck was an 87. My truck and the rear case currently stuck is an 85. Anyone know why this happens and an easy way to free up the bind??

I don't know why this is happening to you. If it were mine I would try removing the detent ball and spring since it is so easy to remove. I would then try shifting it to see if there was any improvement. It may just be that the detent ball is worn out?? It may also be a problem with the shift rail interlock pin. I removed mine when I went to triple sticks. If you removed yours then you may be screwed, :sad2: fortunatley for you, I would be willing to dispose of your truck for free.

weird this issue is popping up frequently now it seems. I just did duals on my sons truck and was having the same problem. I found the only way to avoid it was to shift the rear case in to low first and then shift crawl box to go lower. its kind of a dumb issue for me but thats what I found works. when it got stuck, I would have to remove the shifter base and shift the rails with a screw driver. not sure exactly what is causing it but i know what to do to avoid it  :hammer:

I thi k its the dentent ball.. I had the exact same issue on my rear case.. It ended up being a tuck ball.. Those with the isdue pull it out and cut the spring down just a hair.. Also the shaft that moves was stuck.. On the other case so i pounded it out and cleaned it up and works fin now

Pulled the cases back out today. Guess I have a rare top shift case. The 2wd/4wd shift rail has a huge stopper deal on the end of it. The instructions don't have any info about it. Anyhow shame on me for not test shifting the rear case prior to installing it. I just figured since I hadn't touched it I shouldn't need to check it. The big stopper was making contact with the crawl box adapter. So it wasted a bunch of time and cost me an $11 mar gasket and a few qts. of mobil 1 oil but when the new gasket arrives I should be crawlin!!
