How to remove shift lever 1994 22re
« on: Sep 01, 2013, 12:10:25 PM »
I have a 94 toyota 22re 5 speed that is having clutch problems that I am trying to solve. I changed the slave cylinder and it is working fine. The clutch pedal at the bracket has about a 1/4" space and has resistance to push clutch release arm. I am now looking at removing the shift lever to replace the shift bushing and seat. I need to know how to remove the shift lever.

Take off the interior boots. You'll see the shift handle exposed. There will be a push and turn style retainer. Push an turn the retainer counter clockwise and it will pop right out because it is preloaded with a spring.
