seats
« on: Jul 31, 2013, 09:29:25 PM »
I need a pair of front seats for my 85 4runner. Besides 84-89 4runner seats what other seats will bolt straight up? Will regular cab or extra cab seats from the same years bolt in? Also what other seats have people used?

Yep, there are several threads for what seats will work, any Toyota truck runner seats will work through the 3rd gen Runner and 1st gen Tacoma, everything else may take some type of mod.
'90 black X-cab mod'd 3.0, 33's/4.88's, rear ARB, custom bumpers, sliders, safari rack, etc.
'91 Blue X-cab 22re, 35's/5.29's,Truetrac front, ARB rear, dual cases, and custom Safari flatbed, bumper, interior.

A buddy had a 1st gen Runner with 2nd gen seats front and rear, I didn't install the seats, so I am not sure oof the rear seats were a direct bolt in like the fronts.

Most Toyota/other Japanese buckets from the '80's and mid '90's front mounst also line up with the Toyota trucks/Runners, it is the rear mounts that tend to need work, either drilling new holes, welding on new tabs, or making completely new mounts.

If you carry passengers in the rear, you will likely want/need to swap over the passenger seat brackets, since it is designed to slode further forward to let passengers into the back seat easier, not sure if the 3rd gen and Tacoma X-cabs do the same, I will check my '90 later today.

If you go with late model sedan seats, check the height of the seat, bracket to seat top, a set of Honda accord seats I installed on an '85 2wd reduced the headroom quite a bit, enough so that without it being an X-cab, I at 6'3" wouldn't have fit.  Fortunately a short guy bought the truck and thought the seats were perfect.

If you tend to be the only one in your Runner and the seats are the same color or you are using seatcovers, you can usually swap the bottom and the back of the passenger's seat with the driver's, you would then end up with an almost new seat.

I have 2nd gen runner seats in my 1st gen runner and they are not bolt in. I just got done cutting off the mounts and relocating them.

I posted a pair I just pulled out of my 85' 4runner in the for sale section. $35, get some seat covers and they'd be perfect.... bolt right up!
