How does a locker or welding the rear end effect the steering in everyday driving. I wanna add the extra traction but dont wanna make it where my wife cant drive it.

everyone has their own opinion. I run locker in front and welded in the rear  there's pros and cons about everything. I daiily drive my truck on the street I love having it welded offroad but it sometimes gets annoying but its not bad my rear tires don't get to worn out fast

Ok. I'm gonna weld mine for to long. If I end up not liking it I'll get another rear end, but i don't think that'll happen

Not yet, still tryin to track down a friend with a welder I could borrow. Any certain size wire or amp do the job better?

Weld it.  Wears tires a little faster but not so much that its worth spending money on a locker for the rear.  If the person welding has experience and you use some plate steel between the gears you can get away with a 110 volt welder.  If you want to be safe or don't have as much experience a 220 volt welder can get more penetration with less skill.

with the 110 volt welder weld the gears together a bit before you weld the plate in.

Some have welded plate between the spider gears which seems to be the strongest, but remember to not overheat things. Give it time to cool between welds so warping does not occur. There are several threads on the subject here, just search for them.

Weld it I hate lockers I hate how they click in and out making bad clanging noises I welded mine front and rear love it nothing is better than.all 4 digging when you want em to....if I was you I'd find a buddy that has a good stick welder mig is kind of picky but a stick will burn thru anything it does care greasy or dirty it welds .  .
