1st Gen pu 2wd to 4wd
« on: Jan 04, 2013, 11:23:51 AM »
I've seen a lot of 2nd, 3rd gen and Taco 2wd to 4wd conversion but not too many 1 gen's.

I'm guessing that there are far fewer 1st gen's around to convert but maybe there's something about the frames I'm missing other than being shorter in length.

Anyone wanna chime in?

It's just easier to get a first gen 4wd than to convert a 2wd. The reason newer 2wd pickups are used is because they have higher front frame arches than the 4wd, so you can make in lower easier.

So the 1st gen 2wd don't have the higher arch front rails like the 2nd and 3rd gen frames?

First gen 2wd frames just have the same, or close enough to the same, frame as first gen 4wd. Same with 2nd gen pickups that come with solid axles.
