Pulling a forward shift Tcase
« on: Jul 04, 2016, 04:05:51 PM »
Hello  Marlin community, recently I snapped the threads off my transfer case fill hole. Looking at it, it appears to be an easy fix after dropping the case out of the truck. Further investigation into chiltons and the FSM, you "have" to drop the transmission as well.

I am one person armed with a socket and wrench set, a floor jack, and a PDF version FSM. Dropping the transmission is exactly what I don't want to do, so I ask if it's possible to drop a forward shift setup without dropping the trans? I hear it's perfectly fine doing it with a top shift setup.

I don't see why you couldn't. Just remove the shifter handle base and pull the transfer case back to remove it.

You'll be fine, just make sure you pull the shifter before. Part should be there Wednesday

Hey, bro
You do not have to remove the transfer case.
Just replace the rear t-case cover in the truck.
Its so easy you will be shocked.
I have done this several times when Younglings have checked fluid level and overtightened the plug.

I would run a 2x4 in the interior with a tie down strap, to support transmission, then UN bolt crossmember from frame, use floorjack to get right to that sweet spot so you can slide rearward, pull down, don't forget rear driveshaft.

I think the previous owner threw it on with an impact gun!

I was hoping to GUNK the whole tcase, but if I don't need to pull it I'll just do as you said.
