So I have checked 3 rigs, including mine, and the transfercase output has some end play up and down/side to side (not in and out). Mine seems to have allot, but with out measuring I am not certain if it has more or less than the other two. It seems that the seal wouldn't seal for beans with the amount of end play I am seeing, but it does... Does anyone know how much their should be? I just went through the 85 FSM, and cannot find a spec for output end play. it has instructions/specs to inspect the bearings themselves, but that involves tearing down the cases, which I cannot do at the moment.
Anyway, I ask because my truck vibrates at 70mph, and it feels exactly like a driveshaft vibe. Except that my drive shaft is in good shape, and my angles are near perfect. However when I crawl under there it seems that I can move the out put up and down 1/8"! I will try to put a dial indicator on it and see what it really is, and compare it to my wife's 4runner.
